(b) Four ways Civic Education can help eradicate involvement in cult activities

1. Moral instruction: Civic Education teaches good moral values such as discipline, honesty and respect for human life, which discourage cultism.
2. Awareness of dangers: It exposes students to the dangers and consequences of cultism, such as death, imprisonment and expulsion, thereby discouraging them.
3. Promotion of civic responsibility: It instils in citizens a sense of responsibility and respect for the law, so that they channel their energy into positive activities.
4. Encouraging positive peer influence and dialogue: It teaches young people to resist negative peer pressure and to report cult activities, promoting a cult-free environment.

Modern mode of popular participation refers to the present-day ways through which citizens take active part in the political, social and economic affairs of their society. These include voting during elections, contesting for elective offices, joining political parties, membership of pressure groups and civil society organisations, participating in public opinion polls, and use of the media and internet to influence government decisions.

(b) Six ways popular participation can facilitate the advancement of a developing society

1. Good leadership: Active participation ensures that credible and competent leaders are elected into office.
2. Accountability of government: When citizens participate, they monitor government and demand transparency and accountability.
3. Protection of rights: Participation enables citizens to defend their rights and resist bad policies and oppression.
4. Political stability: It gives citizens a sense of belonging, reducing agitation, violence and instability.

Values are the accepted principles, standards, beliefs and qualities that a society or individual considers to be good, worthwhile and desirable, and which guide people's behaviour and conduct. Examples include honesty, integrity, discipline, hard work, tolerance and respect.

1. It builds trust: When people are honest and truthful, mutual trust develops among citizens, and between the government and the governed, which is necessary for social harmony.
2. It promotes good governance: Leaders of integrity are accountable and transparent, which reduces corruption and ensures the proper use of public resources.
3. It attracts investment and development: Investors are willing to do business in a society where contracts are honoured and dealings are fair, thereby boosting the economy.

(b) Three reasons why competition for political power among politicians is fierce in Nigeria

1. Access to public wealth: Political office gives access to public funds and privileges, making it very attractive and worth fighting for.
2. Lack of alternative means of livelihood: Politics is seen by many as the fastest means of becoming rich, so they struggle desperately for power.
3. Ethnic and religious interests: Politicians compete fiercely to secure power for their ethnic or religious groups, intensifying the struggle.
