Anaerobic Respiration (continued)

Overview

When you finish a hard sprint you do not stop panting straight away. Your heart pounds and your breathing stays fast and deep for a while. This is your body paying back the oxygen debt it built up while your muscles were respiring without enough oxygen.

In this lesson you will follow exactly how the body removes the oxygen debt after vigorous exercise: how the lactic acid travels from the muscles to the liver, why breathing and heart rate stay high, and how the lactic acid is finally broken down.
