Scale Drawings
Overview
You cannot fit a country onto a sheet of paper, so maps and plans shrink the real world by a fixed amount. A scale tells you exactly how much: how many real metres or kilometres each centimetre on the drawing stands for. Read the scale correctly and a drawing becomes a precise calculator for real distances.
In this lesson you will interpret scales written as ratios and as statements, convert confidently between drawing lengths and real lengths, and work with three-figure bearings, the directions measured clockwise from north that pilots and sailors use every day.
