Designing (Graphic products option)
Overview
Almost no graphic product today is designed entirely by hand. Computer aided design (CAD) lets a designer draw, edit, test and present ideas on screen with a speed and precision that pencil and paper cannot match. This topic weighs up what CAD gives a designer and what it costs, and then looks at the newest tool on the desk: artificial intelligence, which promises to speed up design but brings real risks a careful designer must understand.
For the Graphic products option you need balanced judgement, not enthusiasm or fear. Knowing why CAD makes it easy to test ten layouts in the time one hand drawing would take, and why an AI-generated logo might copy someone else's work, is exactly the reasoning the examiner rewards.
