The Role Of Management:
Overview
Every organisation, from a school to a multinational, needs someone to set direction, organise people and check that the work gets done. We call that person a manager, though the title might be director, leader or headteacher. Strip away the job titles and the tasks of management are remarkably similar everywhere.
In this lesson you will learn the five classic functions of management: planning, organising, coordinating, commanding and controlling, and then explore one of the most important management skills of all, delegation, and the balance every manager must strike between trust and control. By the end you will be able to explain what managers actually do and why good management keeps a business from drifting into failure.
