Aerobic Respiration

Overview

When you take a deep breath, the oxygen you draw in has one main job: to help your cells release energy from food. This is aerobic respiration, the most efficient way a cell has of getting the energy it needs to stay alive.

In this lesson you will learn exactly what aerobic respiration is, write its word equation, and (for the extended curriculum) its balanced chemical equation. These equations are guaranteed marks if you can reproduce them precisely, so we will make sure you can.

Aerobic respiration is how almost every cell in your body releases the energy it needs. The word 'aerobic' means 'with oxygen', and using oxygen lets a cell get far more energy out of each glucose molecule than it could without it. The equations here are among the most reliably tested facts in the whole syllabus.
