Present Data (Databases)
Overview
You have searched the data and worked out the figures; now someone has to read the result. A screen full of raw table cells is fine for the computer, but a manager wants a tidy document with a clear title, headings, the right columns, prices aligned and totalled, and the page numbered at the foot. That polished document is a database report, and producing it well is the final step that turns data into something people can actually use.
In this lesson you will learn how to build a report that shows the required fields in full, choose a tabular or columnar layout, and place titles and information correctly in the report header, page header and footers. You will group records and add summaries such as totals and averages, and format the output by aligning data, setting decimal places, and adding currency symbols or percentages. These are the presentation skills of the practical database papers.
