Indices I
Overview
Indices are mathematical shorthand for repeated multiplication, and the rules of indices let you combine powers without writing them out in full. They make light work of expressions that would otherwise be huge, and they are the foundation of standard form and much of the algebra ahead.
In this lesson you will use positive, zero and negative indices, and apply the laws of indices to multiply, divide and raise powers. These few rules, once secure, turn complicated-looking expressions into quick one-line simplifications.
