Overview
One worker asking a large employer for a pay rise has little power. But thousands of workers asking together, with the threat to stop work if refused, is a different matter. That is the simple idea behind a trade union: strength in numbers.
In this lesson you will learn what a trade union is, what it does for its members, and how being a union member affects both employees and employers, the benefits, such as better pay and conditions, and the drawbacks, such as the cost of disputes.
