Probability As A Fraction, Decimal Or Percentage

Overview

Probability measures how likely something is, on a scale from impossible to certain. The same likelihood can be written as a fraction, a decimal or a percentage, and being able to move between them is the first skill of the topic.

In this lesson you will calculate the probability of a single event as a fraction, decimal or percentage, understand the 0 to 1 scale, and use the fact that the probabilities of all outcomes add up to 1.

Objectives

  1. Express the probability of an event as a fraction, decimal or percentage, and interpret the significance of its value.

Lesson Note

Probability is how we reason about uncertainty, from weather forecasts to medical tests to games of chance. Expressing it cleanly as a fraction, decimal or percentage is the foundation for everything that follows.
