Communication
Overview
When a charity wants to reach the public, a school wants to tell parents about an open day, or a band wants to sell concert tickets, each must choose how to get the message across. A printed poster, a glossy newsletter, a website, a multimedia presentation, a streamed video or a simple text message all carry information, but each suits a different audience, budget and purpose. Choosing well is a real ICT skill, and Cambridge tests whether you can weigh the strengths and weaknesses of each.
This lesson sorts out the main communication media and shows where each one shines. You will see why streaming differs from downloading, why an e-publication can do things paper never could, and how a single mobile phone now handles texts, calls, internet telephony, video chat and web access. By the end you will be able to recommend the right medium for a given situation and justify your choice the way an examiner expects.
