Attainment of maturity is one of the conditions that make prayer obligatory on believers. In Islam, prayer (salah) is one of the five pillars and an important act of worship. A person is required to start performing obligatory prayers once they have reached the age of puberty or maturity. This means that children are not obligated to perform prayers until they have reached a certain age or level of physical and mental development. The obligation to pray is not based on social status, reciting the Qur'an with proper Tajweed, or following a pious Imam, but rather on the individual's maturity level.
