The Lake Chad Basin Commission was formed in 1964. It is a regional organization comprising of Chad, Cameroon, Niger, Nigeria, and the Central African Republic, with the aim of promoting cooperation and sustainable development within the Lake Chad Basin region. The organization was established to address common challenges such as the management of the basin's natural resources, including water, fisheries, and pasturelands, as well as to mitigate the effects of droughts and other environmental and security issues.
