The statement "Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world" was made by John the Baptist. John the Baptist was a prophet and a preacher who lived in the wilderness and baptized people in the Jordan River. He recognized Jesus as the Messiah and the Lamb of God who would take away the sins of the world. John made this statement when he saw Jesus coming towards him at the river Jordan.
