The Jews sought all the more to kill Jesus after healing the man at the pool of Bethesda because they thought that He made Himself equal with God. In the Gospel of John, Jesus healed a man who had been an invalid for 38 years at the pool of Bethesda on the Sabbath day. This caused the Jewish leaders to become angry and to accuse Jesus of breaking the Sabbath law. Jesus responded by saying that He was doing the works of His Father, and that He had authority to do so. He also said that He and His Father were one.
