The act of parturition in rabbits is known as kindling. This refers to the process of giving birth to baby rabbits or kits. The female rabbit, also known as a doe, will typically build a nest using hay, straw, or other materials, where she will give birth. The gestation period for rabbits is relatively short, typically lasting around 31 days. During kindling, the doe will give birth to a litter of between one and 14 kits, with the average litter size being around six. The kits are born hairless and with their eyes closed, and they rely on their mother's milk for nutrition for the first few weeks of their lives.
