Shoe

Answer Details
The word that has the same vowel sound as the one represented by the underlined letters in "shoe" is "food". Both "shoe" and "food" have the same vowel sound /uː/ (pronounced like "oo" in "food"). To help explain, vowel sounds are the sounds produced by the vocal cords when the breath flows through an open mouth. In English, there are 5 vowel sounds: a, e, i, o, u. The vowel sound in "shoe" is /uː/ which is a long "oo" sound, and "food" also has the same vowel sound /uː/. In contrast, "full" has the vowel sound /ʊ/, pronounced like "uh" as in "full", which is different from the vowel sound in "shoe". Similarly, "put" has the vowel sound /ʌ/, pronounced like "uh" as in "cup", and "blood" has the vowel sound /ʌ/, which is also pronounced like "uh" as in "cup".
