The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) was established in the year 2003. NAPTIP is a government agency in Nigeria responsible for preventing and combating human trafficking and related offenses. The agency was established by the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Law Enforcement and Administration Act, which was signed into law on 14th of July 2003. This law created NAPTIP to coordinate and enforce efforts to prevent human trafficking, protect and assist victims, and prosecute offenders.
