Question 1 Report

As the account clerk of an organisation, you are to prepare the table as shown below using a spreadsheet application:

Worker Wage/day(#)
Edeh 1500
Usman 1750
Steven 1200
Ololade 650
Comfort 897
Joe 2371

(a) Copy and paste table title "Workers' Wages" on the same sheet. Format this new table as follows:
(i) Title the new table as SALARIES
(ii) Sort the table in alphabetical order
(iii) Calculate average wage of workers per day

(iv) Calculate the max and min wages paid to the workers from the SALARIES

(b) Insert a bar chart for data in 2a

(c) Save workbook with your full name in the folder created

(d) Print and submit

Answer Details

This is a spreadsheet (e.g. Microsoft Excel or LibreOffice Calc) practical task. The steps below reproduce the original table, create the required SALARIES table, apply the sorting and calculations, and insert the bar chart.

Step 1 – Original table (\"Workers' Wages\")

Enter the data exactly as given. Type the title in cell A1, the headings in row 2, and the records below.

Workers' Wages
WorkerWage/day (₦)
Edeh1500
Usman1750
Steven1200
Ololade650
Comfort897
Joe2371

Step 2 (a) – Create and format the SALARIES table

Select the original table, press Ctrl + C to copy, click an empty cell (e.g. D1) and press Ctrl + V to paste a copy on the same sheet.

  • (i) Rename the title: click the pasted title cell and type SALARIES.
  • (ii) Sort in alphabetical order: select the Worker and Wage/day columns of the copy, then use Data → Sort → Column: Worker → A to Z. The names re-order and each wage stays with its owner.

After sorting, the SALARIES table looks like this:

SALARIES
WorkerWage/day (₦)
Comfort897
Edeh1500
Joe2371
Ololade650
Steven1200
Usman1750

Step 2 (a)(iii)–(iv) – Calculations

Assuming the six wages occupy cells E3:E8, enter these formulae in empty cells below the table:

StatisticFormulaResult (₦)
Average wage/day=AVERAGE(E3:E8)1394.67
Maximum wage=MAX(E3:E8)2371
Minimum wage=MIN(E3:E8)650

Verification of the average:

\[ \text{Average} = \frac{897 + 1500 + 2371 + 650 + 1200 + 1750}{6} = \frac{8368}{6} = 1394.67 \]

Step 2 (b) – Insert the bar chart

Select the Worker and Wage/day columns of the SALARIES table, then choose Insert → Chart → Column/Bar. The chart plots each worker's daily wage:

graph
Bar chart of each worker's daily wage from the sorted SALARIES table; Joe is highest (2371), Ololade lowest (650).

The tallest bar belongs to Joe (₦2371, the maximum) and the shortest to Ololade (₦650, the minimum), which agrees with the MAX and MIN results above.

Step 2 (c)–(d) – Save, print and submit

  • Save: choose File → Save As, open the folder you created, type your full name as the file name and click Save (.xlsx).
  • Print: choose File → Print (Ctrl + P), select the printer and click Print, then submit the printout.
