(a) Which curve, S1 or S2, shows supply after the robots are installed? Explain your answer. [2]

Answer Details

(a) Supply after the robots are installed is shown by S2 [1]. Robots reduce the number of workers needed per lunch box, lowering labour costs. Lower costs allow the firm to supply more lunch boxes at every given price, so supply increases [1]. On the diagram, this is the rightward shift from S1 to S2, not simply a movement along one supply curve.
