Question 1 Report

Which of the following military regimes in Nigeria played a prominent role in the liberation of colonized African States?
Answer Details
The military regime that played a prominent role in the liberation of colonized African states is the Murtala/Obasanjo regime. This regime, which came into power through a military coup in 1975, was committed to promoting Pan-Africanism and supporting the struggle for independence in African countries that were still under colonial rule. Under the leadership of General Murtala Mohammed and later General Olusegun Obasanjo, the Nigerian government provided military and financial support to liberation movements in countries such as Angola, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe. The regime also took steps to strengthen Nigeria's own independence and influence on the African continent, such as by establishing the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and hosting the second summit of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) in 1977. While other military regimes in Nigeria may have also had some involvement in African liberation movements, it was the Murtala/Obasanjo regime that had the most significant impact in this regard.
