Settlements where people build their houses along routes are often called linear settlements. In these settlements, houses are built along a road or other linear feature, such as a river or railway line. This type of settlement pattern is common in areas where transportation routes, such as roads or rails, are the main means of access to resources and markets. Linear settlements are often found in rural areas, but can also be found in urban areas where transportation routes are well-developed. The main advantage of linear settlements is that they make transportation and communication easier, as all the houses are located along a single route.
