(a) Structure A is the glomerulus. [1 mark] It is the knot of capillaries where filtration begins.
(b) Water and glucose move from A into the start of the nephron by ultrafiltration. [1 mark]
(c) Glucose should not normally be in urine leaving structure C because it is selectively reabsorbed from the kidney tubule into the blood. It is retained for respiration as an energy source rather than being lost in urine. [2 marks]
