P - the electron gun: the assembly at the narrow end containing the heated filament/cathode and the anodes (focusing and accelerating electrodes). It produces, focuses and accelerates a narrow beam of electrons.
Q - the deflecting system (deflecting plates): the pairs of parallel plates (the X- and Y-plates) through which the beam passes. They deflect the electron beam horizontally and vertically by means of the electric fields between the plates.
R - the fluorescent screen: the flared front face of the tube, coated on the inside with a fluorescent (phosphor) material. It glows to produce a visible spot where the electron beam strikes it.
