Answer Details
Rhizobium is a type of bacteria that can live in symbiosis with leguminous plants such as beans, peas, and soybeans. The bacteria live in nodules on the roots of these plants and convert atmospheric nitrogen gas into a form of nitrogen that the plants can use, through a process called nitrogen fixation. The plants, in turn, provide the bacteria with a source of energy in the form of carbohydrates. Therefore, Rhizobium supplies nitrogen to leguminous plants by fixing atmospheric nitrogen into the soil.
