What happens to the beam when the balance and blocks are taken to the Moon?
A beam balance compares masses by balancing moments on each side. Both blocks have the same mass (1.5 kg each). On the Moon, both blocks experience the same reduced gravitational field strength, so both sides are equally affected. The beam remains level. The reading does not change because a beam balance measures mass, not weight, and mass is independent of location.
