The table compares a sample of pure aluminium with an aluminium alloy used to build aircraft. Using the data, which property makes the alloy the better choice for aircraft bodies?
Judge the alloy on both rows of the table together. The correct reason is its greater strength combined with a similarly low density. Relative strength rises from 1 to 4, a fourfold gain, while density rises only from \(2.70\) to \(2.80\ \mathrm{g/cm^3}\), an increase of under 4%. The aircraft therefore gains a great deal of load-bearing ability for almost no extra mass.
Saying the alloy has the lower density contradicts the table, because the alloy is the denser of the two. No conductivity or melting point data appear in the table at all, so neither of those claims can be supported; inventing a property that was not measured is the trap here.
