Input Devices And Their Uses
Overview
Every time you tap a screen, press a key, speak to a voice assistant or let a thermostat read the room, you are feeding data into a computer. None of the clever processing inside a machine can begin until data has been captured from the outside world, and that is exactly what input devices do. From the humble keyboard to the temperature sensor buried in a greenhouse wall, each device is built for a particular job, with its own strengths and its own weaknesses.
In this lesson you will meet the full family of input devices the Cambridge syllabus asks you to know: keyboards and keypads, pointing devices, remote controls, joysticks and driving wheels, touch screens, scanners, cameras, microphones, sensors and light pens. More importantly, you will learn to choose the right device for a given situation and to justify that choice in exam terms, weighing speed, accuracy, cost and ease of use against one another.
