Science Double Award - 4SD0 PearsonEdexcel

Physics: Electricity: Units

Overview

Every circuit calculation depends on using the correct electrical units. Confusing milliamps with amps, or forgetting the relationship between volts, joules and coulombs, leads to answers that are orders of magnitude wrong.

This reference covers the seven SI units for the electricity section of the Edexcel specification: ampere, coulomb, joule, ohm, second, volt and watt.

Objectives

  1. Use the following units: ampere (A), coulomb (C), joule (J), ohm (Ohm), second (s), volt (V) and watt (W)

Lesson Note

Electricity problems involve current, voltage, resistance, charge, energy and power. Each has its own SI unit, and mixing them up is one of the most common sources of lost marks. This lesson gives you a single reference for all seven, along with the conversions you need when a question uses non-standard prefixes.
