Research Skills: Planning And Carrying Out Research
Overview
Good research is the engine of Global Perspectives. Before you can analyse an issue, evaluate evidence or argue a case, you have to find the right material and find it well. That starts with a sharp question, not a vague topic, and it depends on gathering sources that genuinely show different sides rather than a pile that all agree with each other. Research that is planned is research that goes somewhere; research that is rushed produces a thin report and a weak project.
This lesson takes you through the whole research process. You will learn how to turn a broad topic into a focused, answerable question, how to choose methods and a search strategy, the difference between primary and secondary sources and why you need both, how to find diverse and varied viewpoints, how to record what you find so you can reference it later, and how to evaluate your own process and improve it. These are the AO1 skills the Individual Report and the Written Exam reward most heavily.
