Translocation

Overview

A leaf makes far more sugar than it can use, while a growing root or a swelling potato makes none at all. Getting food from where it is made to where it is needed is the job of translocation, the movement of sugar and amino acids through the phloem.

This is an Extended-tier topic. In this lesson you will learn exactly what translocation is, what 'sources' and 'sinks' mean, and why the very same part of a plant can switch from being a source to a sink at different times in its life.
