The Internet And The World Wide Web
Overview
"The internet" and "the web" get used as if they were the same thing, but they are not: one is the physical and addressing structure connecting billions of devices, the other is a service that runs on top of it, made of linked pages and the protocols that fetch them. Confusing the two is one of the most common mistakes students make in this topic.
This lesson separates the internet's structure, IP addressing and the domain name service, from the world wide web's own components: web servers, URLs, ISPs, HTTP, HTTPS and HTML. You will also compare IPv4 and IPv6 addressing, and see how a modem, router, switch and wireless access point combine to get a home or office onto the internet in the first place.
