Histograms With Frequency Density

Overview

A histogram looks like a bar chart, but when the class widths are unequal a fair picture needs the bars' areas, not their heights, to show the frequencies. The height then becomes the frequency density.

In this lesson you will draw and interpret histograms with unequal class intervals using frequency density.

Objectives

  1. Draw and interpret histograms with unequal intervals using frequency density.

Lesson Note

Frequency density makes histograms with unequal intervals honest, so the eye reads the data correctly. It is the standard way to display continuous grouped data.
