Reviewing Outcomes

Overview

Building a digital product is only half the challenge. The other half is standing back, comparing what you made with what was actually asked for, and deciding whether the result is fit for purpose. Reviewing outcomes is the skill that turns a first draft into a polished, professional piece of work.

In this lesson you will learn how to compare a finished product against its original requirements, identify strengths and weaknesses, suggest and apply improvements, and evaluate the ICT tools you chose along the way. These review skills appear in every Edexcel ICT exam paper and are essential for the practical component.

Objectives

  1. Review the outcomes of the use of software applications by comparing the digital product with the original requirements
  2. Identify strengths and weaknesses in a digital product and suggest possible improvements
  3. Make modifications to improve the outcomes
  4. Evaluate the selection, use and effectiveness of ICT tools and facilities used

Lesson Note

Imagine you are asked to create a newsletter for a school open evening. You choose a word processor, add text and images, and print the result. But does the newsletter actually do what it was supposed to do? Is it clear, attractive, and aimed at the right audience? Reviewing outcomes is the process of answering those questions honestly and making the product better as a result.
