Acid-base Titrations

Overview

How do you find out exactly how much acid neutralises a given amount of alkali? A titration answers this with great precision, measuring volumes to a fraction of a millilitre. It is one of the most important practical techniques you will learn.

In this lesson you will learn how a titration is carried out using a burette, a pipette and an indicator, how the end-point is judged by a colour change, and how the results are used to find an unknown concentration. Careful technique is the heart of an accurate result.
