Physics: Solids, Liquids And Gases: Units

Overview

The solids, liquids and gases section brings together density, pressure and gas behaviour, and each calculation needs the right SI units. With twelve different units to manage, careful conversion is essential.

This reference covers every unit you need for the topic: degree Celsius, kelvin, joule, kilogram, kilogram per metre cubed, metre, metre squared, metre cubed, metre per second, metre per second squared, newton and pascal.

Objectives

  1. Use the following units: degree Celsius, Kelvin (K), joule (J), kilogram (kg), kilogram/metre3, metre (m), metre2, metre3, metre/second (m/s), metre/second2, newton (N) and pascal (Pa)

Lesson Note

This section covers three main areas: density, pressure and gas laws. Each brings its own set of units. Density uses kg/m3, pressure uses pascals, and gas law questions switch between Celsius and kelvin. This reference collects every unit in one place and explains the handful of conversions that account for almost every unit-related mark lost in this section.
