The Role Of Marketing:

Overview

A great product that no one knows about, or that no one actually wants, will not sell. Marketing is how a business finds out what customers need, makes sure it satisfies those needs, and keeps customers coming back. It is the bridge between what a firm makes and what people will buy.

This lesson explains the role of marketing: identifying and satisfying customer needs, maintaining loyalty and building relationships. By the end you will see why marketing is far more than advertising, and how it drives the success of the whole business.

Objectives

  1. Identifying customer needs
  2. Satisfying customer needs
  3. Maintaining customer loyalty
  4. Building customer relationships

Lesson Note

Marketing decides whether a business sells what it makes. Firms that ignore customer needs end up with unsold stock; firms that build loyalty enjoy repeat sales for years. Understanding the role of marketing explains why some products succeed and others fail.
