Overview

Before you can describe how fast something moves or how hard it pushes, you need a shared language of measurement. Physics uses the SI system - a set of standard units that scientists around the world agree on.

In this lesson you will learn the key units used in forces and motion, how to convert between common units, and why using the correct unit matters in calculations and exams.

Objectives

  1. Use the following units: kilogram (kg), metre (m), metre/second (m/s), metre/second2 (m/s2), newton (N), second (s) and newton/kilogram (N/kg)

Imagine two scientists sharing results - one measures distance in miles, the other in kilometres. Without agreed units, their data is useless. The SI system (Systeme International) provides standard units that remove ambiguity.
