Business - 4BS1 PearsonEdexcel

External Factors

Overview

No business operates in isolation. Every decision a firm makes, from launching a product to choosing a supplier, is shaped by forces it cannot control. Economic swings, technological breakthroughs, shifting social attitudes, environmental pressures, and new laws all land on the boardroom table whether the business is ready or not.

In this lesson you will explore the main external factors that influence business decisions, understand how social, technological, environmental, and political changes create both threats and opportunities, and practise applying these ideas to real scenarios in the style Edexcel examiners reward.

Objectives

  1. Understand the external factors affecting business decisions: social, technological, environmental and political

Lesson Note

In 2020, governments worldwide ordered businesses to close their doors almost overnight. Restaurants pivoted to delivery, retailers rushed online, and manufacturers retooled production lines to make medical equipment. The pandemic was an extreme example, but external forces reshape business decisions every single day. Understanding these forces is not optional - it is essential for survival and growth.
