Comparing Texts And Exploring Connections
Overview
Two extracts, both unseen, sit side by side in your paper, and somewhere between them is a third thing that neither one contains. That relationship is not decoration on this qualification. It is built into the design of the assessment, worth fifteen per cent of everything, and it has to be constructed in the examination hall by a reader who has never met either text before.
This note teaches how to build a connection cold. You will learn how to find a link precise enough to argue from, how to write a paragraph that carries both texts at once instead of two paragraphs that carry one each, and how to compare the way two writers work rather than merely what two writers think.
