Automated Systems
Overview
Automatic doors that open as you approach, a greenhouse that waters itself, a car that brakes before you do: these are automated systems, machines that sense the world and act on it without a person stepping in. The same three building blocks appear again and again, and once you can name them you can explain how almost any automated system works.
In this lesson you will see how sensors, microprocessors and actuators work together in a continuous loop, follow the data from the real world through a converter into the processor and back out as an action, and weigh the genuine advantages and disadvantages of letting a machine take over a task for a given situation.
