Information and Communication Technology - 4IT1 PearsonEdexcel

Graphics

Overview

Every website, poster, and presentation you see is built from images, and understanding how those images are constructed gives you the power to create, edit, and choose the right format for any task. Whether you are designing a logo that must scale to a billboard or cropping a photograph for a newsletter, the principles are the same.

In this lesson you will explore the two fundamental image types, bitmap and vector, learn how to build images from basic shapes, and practise the editing techniques that Edexcel expects you to demonstrate in the practical component of the 4IT1 course.

Objectives

  1. Explain features of image types: bitmap, vector
  2. Create images: combining basic shapes and text, rectangles, circles, lines, triangles, arrows, text boxes
  3. Edit images: image editing, cropping, adding captions/text, editing/deletion of unwanted aspects

Lesson Note

Open any app on your phone and you are surrounded by graphics: icons, photographs, diagrams, and animations. Some of those images look sharp at any size while others turn into a blurry mess when you zoom in. The difference comes down to how the image stores its data, and that distinction is one of the most frequently tested concepts in the Edexcel ICT specification.
