Web Authoring

Overview

Every website you visit started as a blank page. Somebody had to decide where the heading would go, which images to include, how the navigation would work, and what the code behind it all would look like. Web authoring is the skill of turning ideas into functional, well-structured web pages that people actually want to use.

In this lesson you will learn how to build web pages using templates, insert and format text, images, buttons and animations, and write the HTML code that ties everything together. These are core skills tested in the Edexcel Paper 2 practical examination, where you will be expected to create and modify web pages to meet a client brief.

Objectives

  1. Use a template: tables/frames, standard page features, banners, menu/navigation
  2. Insert text, images, buttons, animation
  3. Format a web page: headings, subheadings, body text, alignment
  4. Use HTML code: insert hyperlinks, insert images, font enhancements

Lesson Note

Open any web page and right-click to view its source code: you will see a mix of HTML tags, image references, and links. Behind every polished website is a structure built from the same small set of elements. Whether you use a web authoring tool like Adobe Dreamweaver or write raw HTML in a text editor, the principles are identical. Understanding both approaches gives you the flexibility to design pages visually and fix problems in the code when the visual editor falls short.
