Cyber Security
Overview
A hospital cannot admit patients because its records are locked. A school loses a term of coursework. A family finds money gone from an account they never told anybody about. None of those is a story about a broken machine. Every one is a story about a working machine doing exactly what it was told by somebody who should never have been able to tell it anything, and preventing that is a discipline in its own right.
This lesson defines cyber security in the terms the specification uses and then does the harder half: describing what it is actually for. You will learn what is being protected, what it is being protected from, and why the definition deliberately mentions processes and practices alongside technologies. That last point is the one most candidates miss, and it is the difference between an answer that lists software and an answer that understands the subject.
