Create Or Edit A Document

Overview

Almost every practical task in ICT begins with a document: a letter, a report, a newsletter, a poster. Creating one is easy. Editing it accurately, moving text without leaving a double space behind, dropping in a table or a chart so it sits exactly where it belongs, is where real skill shows. The examiner is watching for 100 per cent accuracy, because a single mistyped word or a stray blank line can cost a mark even when everything else is perfect.

In this lesson you will learn how to create a new document or open an existing one safely, enter and modify text and numbers, and use the core editing techniques: highlight, delete, move, cut, copy, paste and drag and drop. You will also learn to place objects from many sources, from images and screenshots to tables, charts, spreadsheet extracts and database extracts, and to wrap text neatly around them.

Objectives

  1. Create a new document, or edit an existing.
  2. Enter and modify text and numbers with total.
  3. document.
  4. accuracy Use editing techniques to manipulate text and numbers including highlight, delete, move, cut, copy, paste, drag and drop Place objects into the document from a variety of sources including text, image, screenshot, shapes, table, graph or chart, spreadsheet extract, database extract Wrap text around a table, chart or image including above, below, square and tight.

Lesson Note

Document production runs through the whole of the practical papers. You are judged not on how much you type but on how accurately and consistently you handle text and objects. Marks are awarded for exactly the right edit in exactly the right place, with no extra spaces, no missing words and no broken layout. Master the editing techniques now and the later topics, tables, headers and footers, styles and proofing, all sit comfortably on top of them.
