Effective Use Of The Internet
Overview
The internet can feel like a single thing, but it is really a worldwide network that carries many services, of which the World Wide Web is only one. Knowing the difference between the internet, the web, an intranet and an extranet, and understanding how a search engine actually works, is what turns a casual user into someone who can find reliable information quickly and judge whether to trust it.
In this lesson you will learn what each of these networks is and how they differ, the parts of a web address, the role of an ISP and a browser, and the difference between the internet and a search engine. You will weigh the advantages and disadvantages of using the internet to find information, learn the six tests for judging reliability, and meet the key protocols and risks. These are the skills behind effective, safe and critical use of the internet.
