Overview
Ice, water and steam are all the same substance, yet they look and behave completely differently. The reason lies not in new chemistry but in how the particles are arranged and how fast they move. Once you can picture those particles, the three states of matter make perfect sense.
In this lesson you will meet the kinetic particle theory, which describes matter as tiny particles in constant motion. You will learn how solids, liquids and gases differ in arrangement, movement and spacing of particles, and how heating or cooling drives the changes of state between them.
