Why Effective Communication Is Important And The Methods Used To Achieve It:

Overview

An instruction that arrives late, garbled or to the wrong person can stop a whole business in its tracks. Communication is the nervous system of an organisation: when it works, decisions flow and staff feel informed; when it fails, mistakes, delays and frustration follow.

In this lesson you will learn what makes communication effective, weigh up the strengths and weaknesses of spoken, written and IT-based methods, and practise choosing the right method for a given message. You will leave able to recommend, with reasons, exactly how a business should send a particular piece of information.

Objectives

  1. Effective communication and its importance to business
  2. Benefits and limitations of different communication methods including those based on information technology (IT)
  3. Recommend and justify which communication method to use in given circumstances

Lesson Note

Poor communication causes errors, low morale and wasted time, while good communication keeps staff motivated and decisions sound. The exam asks you to explain why communication matters and, crucially, to recommend the best method for a situation. Knowing the trade-offs between methods turns that into easy marks.
