(a) Explain why Paul advocated submission to the people in authority
(b) State four ways by which you can help your school authority to maintain law and order in your school.
(a) Why Paul advocated submission to those in authority (Romans 13:1-7)
Paul taught that every person should be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except from God.
The authorities that exist have been instituted by God, so whoever resists them resists what God has appointed and will incur judgement.
Rulers are not a terror to good conduct but to bad. The one who does good has nothing to fear and will receive approval; the ruler is God's servant for our good.
The authority does not bear the sword in vain; it is God's servant, an avenger who carries out wrath on the wrongdoer. Therefore one must be subject, not only to avoid punishment but for the sake of conscience.
For the same reason Christians should pay taxes, revenue, respect and honour to whom they are due, since the officials are ministers of God.
(b) Four ways to help the school authority maintain law and order
Obeying the school rules and regulations willingly and encouraging others to do the same.
Respecting teachers, prefects and other officers and cooperating with them in carrying out their duties.
Reporting wrongdoing, threats or dangers such as bullying, cultism or vandalism to the school authorities.
Serving faithfully in positions of responsibility, such as prefect or class monitor, and setting a good example of discipline and punctuality.
