a) Creating a four-slide presentation:

1. Open Microsoft PowerPoint
2. Click on the "New Presentation" button
3. Select a template or theme for your presentation
4. Add slides by clicking on the "New Slide" button in the Home tab
5. Repeat step 4 until you have created four slides

b) Modifying the presentation to show the date, slide number, and surname:

1. Go to the View tab and click on the "Slide Master" button
2. In the slide master, locate the footer section
3. Type "A. Today's date" in the left section, "B. Slide number" in the center section, and "C. Your surname" in the right section
4. Close the slide master and return to the normal view
5. Go to the Insert tab and select the "Page Number" button
6. Choose the option to show the slide number in the footer and place it in the center section
